Call for Submissions: Katitikan’s Maiden Issue

Katitikan provides a platform for both Southern voices as traditionally understood in the scholarship, but also about scholarship that engages with the idea of the Philippines as a discourse on the South. There are no thematic requirements for the first, celebratory issue. Contributors may submit the following:

*Poems of not more than 70 lines each

*Short stories ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 words

*Flash fiction pieces ranging from 100 to 1,000 words

*A chapter of a novel, including novel synopsis, ranging from 2000 to 6000 words

*Essay and creative nonfiction ranging from 2500 to 4000 words

*One-act play, screenplay or an excerpt from a full-length play ranging from 10 to 40 pages

*Critical essays about Philippine Literature and/or the Philippine South ranging from 1500-5000 words in MLA format.

Libulan Queer Anthology – Cebu Normal University Launch

07 March 2018 – The Libulan: Binisayang Antolohiya sa Katitikang Queer has been officially launched earlier today at the Samuel McClintock Hall of Cebu Normal University (CNU). In partnership with Cratos Publishing House Company, Inc. and the CNU Department of English Studies and Other Languages (ESOL) led by the chairperson Dr Carmel Vip Derasin, the event gathered 150 students (mostly AB & BSE English students), faculty, staff, and alumni of CNU.

The launching also consisted of poetry and prose readings from excerpts of the anthology and discussions on queer poetry, fiction, essay, and drama in Cebuano with Libulan contributors Jondy M Arpilleda, Elvin E Ruiz, Wilfreda Cabusas, and Romeo Nicolas with Libulan co-editor R Joseph Dazo.

Libulan queer anthology?s next launchings will happen this March 17 at Parkmall in Mandaue City and very soon, in Cagayan de Oro and Davao.

Libulan Queer Collective launches queer anthology in Cebu Normal University

The Libulan Queer Collective, a writers bloc of queer poets, essayists, fictionists, and playwrights from the southern Philippines, in cooperation with Cratos Publishing House Company, Inc. and the Cebu Normal University-Department of English Studies and Other Languages (ESOL), proudly presents SOUTHERN AUTHORS LIVE: QUEER POETRY, FICTION, ESSAY, AND DRAMA IN CEBUANO and the launching of LIBULAN: BINISAYANG ANTOLOHIYA SA KATITIKANG QUEER, the country?s first anthology of writings from lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, and straight allies this 7 March 2018, 8 AM to 5 PM, at the Samuel McClintock Hall, Cebu Normal University.

The event will feature academic lectures on queer literature, poetry and prose readings from the contributors, and other discussions. It is open to all CNU students, faculty members, staff, and alumni.

Libulan Queer Collective organizes 2018 Cebu Young Writers’ Studio

9 to 10 February 2018 – The Libulan Queer Collective, in partnership with YouTeach Philippines-Central Visayas and the University of Cebu-Banilad, organized the 2018 Cebu Young Writers’ Studio at the AVR 2, 8F Main Building of the University of Cebu-Banilad.

Panelled by young writers from Central Visayas?CD Borden, Wilfreda Cabusas, Richellet Chan, Adonis Enricuso, Jessrel E Gilbuena, Jae Mari Magdadaro, and Arian Tejano?thirteen fellowships were given to aspiring writers based on the quality of the manuscripts that they have submitted. This year?s fellows are Noemi Araneta Alcantara (poetry in English), Kenneth Michael M Baba (poetry in Binisaya), Alsteine Joi Diapana (poetry in English), Maria Eloisa H Garcia (fiction: short story in English), Jorisse Gumanay (poetry in English), Maria Theresa C Lanit (poetry in Binisaya), Leah May Lim Atienza (poetry in English), Ivanie Michmir (poetry in Binisaya), Claire Michaela M Obejas (creative nonfiction in English), Lady Isabelle Y Perez (fiction: short story in English), Sievney Klyze G Quidet (creative nonfiction in English), Thomas Leonard Shaw (poetry in English), and John Rolly V Son (fiction: novel in English).

The 2018 Cebu Young Writers’ Studio Fellows Announced

The Libulan Queer Collective, a writers bloc of queer poets, essayists, fictionists, and playwrights from the southern Philippines, is set to hold the 2018 Cebu Young Writers’ Studio, a regional creative writing workshop for emerging writers from Central Visayas, from 9 to 10 February 2018 at the University of Cebu-Banilad in Cebu City.

The writing fellows named for this year are as follows: Noemi Araneta Alcantara (fiction: novel in Binisaya), Kenneth Michael M Baba (poetry in Binisaya), Alsteine Joi Diapana (poetry in English), Maria Eloisa H Garcia (fiction: short story in English), Jorisse Gumanay (poetry in English), Maria Theresa C Lanit (poetry in Binisaya), Leah May Lim-Atienza (poetry in English), Ivanie Michmir (poetry in Binisaya),Claire Michaela M Obejas (creative nonfiction in English), Louise Francis P Ouano (poetry in English and Binisaya), Lady Isabelle Y Perez (fiction: short story in English), Sievney Klyze G Quidet (fiction: short story in English), Thomas Leonard Shaw (poetry in English), and John Rolly V Son (fiction: novel in English).

The panelists for this year?s workshop are poet-fictionist Jessrel Gilbuena and poet-essayist Adonis Enricuso, with essayist-editor Alton Melvar Dapanas, essayist Johanna Michelle Lim, and poet Arian Tejano as guest panelists. Fictionist-playwright R Joseph Dazo serves as workshop director. Ian Rosales Casocot of Silliman University – Tiempo Creative Writing Center will give the keynote address.
